Archroma launches industry-first bio-based NTR textile printing system
Archroma, a global leader in sustainable specialty chemicals, has introduced a groundbreaking innovation with the launch of its NTR Printing System, the first commercially viable bio-based pigment printing system for textiles. Designed with renewable materials* and free from formaldehyde, this system is set to transform the textile industry by combining sustainability, comfort, and durability in garment printing.
The NTR Printing System represents a significant leap forward in bio-based pigment printing technology, which has previously faced challenges in terms of color fastness and production efficiency. Archroma’s system, using renewable feedstock*, delivers enhanced color quality and production performance comparable to synthetic pigments, making bio-based printing commercially viable for the first time.
“At Archroma, sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. With the NTR Printing System, we’re helping brands reduce their environmental footprint while delivering high-quality, durable textiles,” said Joaquin Femat, Market Segment Director for Printing at Archroma.
Key components of the NTR Printing System include:
- PRINTOFIX® BLACK NTR-TF: A black pigment with 79% renewable carbon content*, offering excellent color fastness.
- HELIZARIN® NTR-SS: A formaldehyde-free binder with 40% renewable carbon content**, ensuring softness and fastness.
- LUPRINTOL® FIXING AGENT NTR-HF: A formaldehyde-free fixing agent with 40% renewable carbon content**, improving wet fastness in laundry and rubbing.
This system is ideal for competitive markets such as denim, knitwear, and babywear, where sustainability, softness, and safety are critical. Archroma is currently seeking compliance certifications from global standards such as bluesign®, GOTS, and ZDHC.
Developed over two years, the NTR Printing System sets a new benchmark for bio-based textile solutions and aligns with Archroma’s “PLANET CONSCIOUS+” initiative, driving innovation in sustainable printing technologies.
*The NTR printing system utilizes partially renewable raw materials.
