INDA urges white house to permanent excemption from Canada, Mexico tariffs

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, calls on the White House to permanently exempt products covered under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) from newly imposed tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports.

The plea follows last month’s executive order by President Trump, which introduced significant tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico. While USMCA products have been temporarily excluded, reports indicate that this exemption may be lifted in early April, raising concerns among manufacturers.

INDA highlights that the nonwoven fabrics industry plays a vital role in the North American economy, generating nearly $100 billion in economic output. The organization cites data from the National Association of Manufacturers, emphasizing that one-third of essential U.S. manufacturing inputs originate from Canada or Mexico rather than from competitors known for unfair trade practices.

“At a time when manufacturers are facing cost pressures from many angles, American manufacturers must remain competitive globally and have long-term clarity on import costs,” INDA stated.
